Shelly Wolfe has been coming to Highway 54 Pilates for more than four years. She originally came into the studio because she was looking for a way to get more physical activity in her routine. She hates to exercise and knew if she joined a program it would keep her accountable. She has participated in Private and group classes in Pilates and THE GYROTONIC® Expansion System and continues to inspire us with her progress! Here are her answers to our questions.
When did you start working out at Highway 54 Pilates and why?
Amie and I met at a business networking group. I liked what she had to say about how Pilates fits into our health and wellness routine.
Describe your workouts. How many days a week do you workout?
I’m at the studio 3 days a week, usually on the reformer or springboard. Occasionally if I’m the only one in class that day we throw in some jumping!
What is your current fitness goal?
I want to be my healthiest self. I’ve learned that it takes a combination of things to stay healthy. We’ve gotta move, eat right, fill in the gaps with good supplementation, and keep a positive attitude.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
I love how strong I feel. When I first started coming, I noticed how certain chores (lifting hay bales) had become difficult. Hauling hay is still not my favorite thing, but at least I can lift those heavy bales again. I also could not lift my arms past a certain point. Frozen shoulder seemed to be setting in. It took a while, but I have full-range of motion in my shoulders again!!
What helps you stay on track?
Knowing there is a room full of ladies, and Amie, waiting for me on those reformers motivates me to be there. And, of course, the way I feel!
What do you do when you’re not at the studio?
I love spending time with my family, especially my granddaughters. I also love horses and am helping my 3-year-old granddaughter love them too. I plan to help her baby sister catch the bug as well. Helping educate others about the benefits of essential oils and oil-infused products takes up the majority of my time. I know how powerful these plant juices are and how they can help us support and maintain our health naturally.
Do you have a favorite exercise or a favorite piece of equipment?
I do like the reformer. Don’t hate me girls, but I like to jump. Maybe if I had to do it all the time, not so much, but I do like to throw it in there on occasion. Now barre class, that’s another story. No thank you!!
Describe our studio in 3 words.
Worth every penny!
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting Pilates?
Do it! Don’t hesitate! It is one of the best things you will do for your health long-term. You only get one body. Take care of it so it will last.
