The GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods are complementary exercise methods that fall under one umbrella- the GYROTONICGYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®.
GYROTONIC® Method is a unique system of exercise that incorporates movement principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi. Central to the system is a complex-looking device with rotational discs and weighted pulleys. The exercises incorporate circular and spiraling movement patterns that increase joint mobility, particularly in the spine.
The GYROTONIC® Method system works by stretching and strengthening the body, increasing range of motion, correcting posture and developing coordination. To get the most from the system, you need direction from a certified instructor. Once you’re on the device, the instructor will attach pulleys with straps to your feet. The rotational movements stretch and strengthen your legs, while encouraging movement in the abdominal muscles.
GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Method exercise sequences use spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions, with corresponding breath. Each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.
